The company dates back the late 1970s when John Morris (founder of Bass Pro Shops) came up with the idea of selling a ready-to-fish boat. The hull design was different than other hull designs at the time. It included a custom trailer, fish finder, trolling motor and power-matched outboard motor. The boat was released in 1978, and was met with great success, launching the Tracker Boat company. Over time, Tracker Boats acquired other boat brands and ultimately the Tracker Boat Company became the Tracker Marine Group. Tracker sells their boats at Bass Pro Shops retail stores, retail centers owned by Tracker, or private retailers.

The Brunswick Boat Group, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, is the largest maker of pleasure boats in the world. In 2008, the companys net sales were US$1.7 billion.[1] The Boat Group makes Sea Ray, Bayliner, Maxum, Hatteras Yachts, Meridian and Sealine pleasure boats from 16 to 100 feet; Boston Whaler, Cabo Yachts and Trophy offshore fishing boats from 13 to 52 feet; and Crestliner, Harris, Kayot, Lowe Boats, Lund, Princecraft and Triton fishing, deck and pontoon boats from 10 to 26 feet. It is privately held, and is not traded on any public exchange. From 2000 to 2005 the BBG doubled in size and acquired 13 additional brands.

The global economic downturn led the Brunswick Boat Group to close more than a dozen plants and reduce its workforce by about 10% after its sales fell more than 16% in 2008.

Designer and Co-founder of "Mckee Craft Boats"

established in 1966, Henry O. Mckee had not

satisfied his desire to create the ultimate in a

comfortable, dry and stable riding small craft.

Leaving "Mckee Craft Boats" in 1974, he ventured

  out on his own to pursue this vision, and

established Henry O. Mckee & Sons near Bolivia,

NC.

After several years of experimentation, he and his

sons began successfully producing the "Henry O"

in 1983. First came the 150 Challenger and later

the 179 Invader. After realizing that conventional

hull designs were not the answer, he began

creating a radically new and streamlined hull in a

17 model. This hull design proved to be the

fulfillment of Henrys vision, a stable, highly

maneuverable soft dry ride. Later versions of this

innovative design came in 22 and 16 lengths. In

spring of 1989, four models were being produced.
